Cuba operates on a dual-economy, which means that foreigners use one currency (CUC’s), while Cubans use Cuban pesos, which are also called Moneda Nacional (CUP). Foreigners are not supposed to change their CUC’s into pesos and are expected to use CUC’s for their purchases. CUC’s come in the following denominations: 1, 3, 5, 10, 20, 50, and 100.
